MANHATTAN THEATRE CLUB PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF BETWEEN US BY JOE HORTUA
DIRECTED BY CHRISTOPHER ASHLEY PREVIEWS BEGIN THURSDAY, APRIL 1 ST OPENING NIGHT IS TUESDAY, APRIL 20 TH Manhattan Theatre Club (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer) is proud to announce the world premiere of BETWEEN US, a new play by Joe Hortua, to be directed by Christopher Ashley. BETWEEN US will begin previews on Thursday, April 1st at MTC at City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street). Opening night is Tuesday, April 20 th. BETWEEN US features Kate Jennings Grant, David Harbour, Daphne Rubin-Vega and Bradley White. The design team includes Neil Patel (sets), Jess Goldstein (costumes), Christopher Akerlind (lighting) and Darron L. West (sound). In BETWEEN US, Carlo and Joel have been close friends since graduate school days. Now years have passed, and together with their wives, Grace and Sharyl, they're buying homes, having kids and growing up. But two nights in each other's homes reveal how far they've also grown apart. This world premiere production explores the ways we change, the compromises we make, and the price we pay for our life choices. The performance schedule for BETWEEN US is: Tuesday through Saturday at 8:00 PM, with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 PM, and Sunday evening performances at 7:00 PM. BIOGRAPHIES JOE HORTUA (Playwright). Joe's work has been read and staged in New York City at Playwrights Horizons, MCC Theatre, the Actor's Studio, Second Stage Theatre Company, Rattlestick Theatre Productions, Rising Phoenix Repertory and the LABrynth Company; in London and abroad at the Royal Court Theatre and the American Theatre Company of Brussels; and regionally at the Geva Theatre in Rochester, the Chicago Dramatists Workshop, South Coast Repertory and the Sundance Institute. His short screenplay Sick was produced by Film Forge Productions and directed in the Summer of 2000 by the theatre director Ron Daniels. He was Playwright-in-Residence at the 2001 Chautauqua Summer Festival. Making It was developed during the 2001 Sundance Theatre Laboratory and produced at South Coast Repertory. DAPHNE RUBIN-VEGA (Grace) first lit up Broadway with her debut as Mimi in the original cast of Rent, for which she won the Theatre World Award, and recieved Tony and Drama Desk nominations for Best Actress in a Musical. In 2001, she returned to Broadway as Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show and most recently as Conchita in Anna in the Tropics. Other credits: Karen Hartman's Gum (Women's Project), Sofia in Nilo Cruz's Two Sisters and a Piano (Public). Last spring she was back at the Public in Suzan-Lori Parks' Fucking A as Canary Mary, for which she received a Lucille Lortel nomination as Best Featured Actress. Film credits include Wild Things (Blockbuster Entertainment Award) and Flawless. Rubin-Vega won Best Actress in a Feature Film from the NY Independent Film and Video Festival for her performance in Skeleton Woman. Daphne is a member of LAByrinth Theater as well as the Drama Dept. She is also a recording artist. Her latest, Rocket Man, is available on Emerge Records. Her band, DRV, plays around BRADLEY WHITE (Carlo).
