College students and early career professionals belonging to communities historically underrepresented in the theatre workforce are invited to participate in a Day of Design Learning focusing on MTC’s production of Jaja’s African Hair Braiding by Jocelyn Bioh.

Please join us for a series of workshops and panels that will provide insights into the theatrical design and production process as well as career development advice. These activities will include:

Production Management: MTC’s Production Management team will share the ins and outs of their role in the theatrical producing process.

Cover Letter and Résumé Development: Learn how to hack the dreaded cover letter and acquire the best practices creating both design and administrative résumés.

Design Process Panel: Designers who worked on MTC’s production of Jaja’s African Hair Braiding will discuss their creative process and the paths they took to build their careers.

For those attending the event in person, these activities will be followed by a free dinner and a complimentary ticket to the evening performance of Jaja’s African Hair Braiding on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

Eligibility

This opportunity is available to individuals who meet one of the below eligibility requirements:

  • A member of the BIPOC community, including self-identifying as Asian; Black; Latina/o or Latiné; Indigenous, Native American, or Alaska Native; Middle Eastern or North African; Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander; and/or Mixed- or Multi-racial
  • Having a gender identity as genderfluid, non-binary, or trans
  • Having a disability as recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act

Additionally, participants should meet one of the below three specific educational criteria:

  • Current undergraduate at two-year or four-year colleges and universities;
  • People who have graduated from a two-year or four-year college or university with an undergraduate degree within the last 24 months (may not hold a degree beyond a Bachelors);
  • People who have pursued an alternate path to formal education (e.g. military veterans, students at technical or trade schools, people who went directly into the workforce after high school)
