MTC is thrilled to contribute to the strengthening of community and individual well-being by promoting participation in our city’s cultural life. Each season, MTC will offer an allotment of tickets free of charge to not-for-profit organizations serving New Yorkers who might not otherwise have an opportunity to attend a Broadway or Off-Broadway performance due to economic barriers.
Guidelines
Eligibility and Registration
→ MTC is specifically interested in welcoming folx living in divested neighborhoods or who are facing economic barriers to arts participation. Examples include people experiencing low wage employment, housing insecurity, current or previous involvement in the justice system, health disparities, disability, and/or education disconnection.
→ Given the nature of the plays we produce, your group’s theatregoers should be at least 14 years old.
→ Organizations may request between 10-25 tickets to one performance of an MTC production at the Friedman Theatre and New York City Center Stage I. An organization may submit one request per production.
→ Your group should be comprised predominantly of the community members your organization serves in New York City. Of course, we understand that each group will include some number of accompanying staff members.
→ We will ask for the production(s) you’re interested in bringing your organization’s constituents to and the days of the week which could work for the group. We’ll then reach out by email to suggest available performance dates.
→ Once tickets are confirmed by MTC, they may not be exchanged to a different performance.
→ Tickets may not be used for raffle or fundraising purposes.
→ MTC reserves the right to decline requests from any group or organization at their discretion.
Claiming Your Group’s Tickets
→ Organizations will provide MTC a final headcount by the Thursday in the week before the group’s performance.
→ Tickets must be picked up from the theatre’s box office by the group leader no later than 30 minutes prior to curtain on the day of the performance.
→ MTC will track ticket usage and requires that at least 80% of the requested tickets be claimed. The usage rate will be determined based upon the final headcount. Organizations may not be eligible to receive ticket grants in the future if they do not meet this requirement.
Sharing Your Group’s Experience
→ MTC aims to uplift the work of the organizations taking advantage of the ticket grant initiative as well as any parties responsible for connecting the theatre and the organizations. We will list on this webpage organizations bringing groups of their constituents to our theatres through this initiative.
→ Organizations are encouraged to take photos or videos of their group at the theatre and post to social media. These may be joint posts with MTC, or they may be posts that tag MTC. MTC will repost any images to its social media accounts, as appropriate.
